Steps To Obtain PCC Attestation In India

The PCC certificate attestation process includes the following 5 steps:

  • Local Verification
  • Notary Attestation
  • State/SDM Attestation
  • MEA Attestation
  • Embassy Attestation
  • Local Verification: The authority that issues your documents examines and verifies them. In this instance, the local police stations or Passport Offices verify the PCC (Police Clearance Certificate).
  • Notary Attestation: Once local verification is done, documents go to Notary Public Offices or Collectors’ offices. Officials at Notary Public Offices review and analyze the documents. If everything seems to be in place, the officials place a Notary Stamp on the documents.
  • State/SDM Attestation: After Notary Attestation, documents are prepared for State Attestation or SDM (Sub-Divisional Magistrate) Attestation. Depending on your preference, you can choose either State or SDM attestation.
  • State Attestation: State authorities check and verify the documents and secretariats of districts conduct an in-depth review. State Attestation requires involvement of multiple government authorities, making it a lengthy and costly process (takes at least 30 working days)
  • SDM Attestation: You can apply for SDM Attestation for a quicker and cost-effective attestation, especially if you need Embassy Attestation. This takes about 3-4 days for the completion of the entire process.
  • MEA Attestation: The central government authority, MEA (Ministry of External Affairs) India, verifies the document’s authenticity. After successful checking, MEA places a stamp or signature on the back of the Police Clearance Certificate, preparing it for further attestation.
  • Embassy Attestation: Here, the PCC is submitted to the embassy of destination country located in India. For example, if you want to get PCC attestation for Qatar visa, it is submitted to Qatar embassy or consulate located in India. The embassy provides a seal on the PCC. Now it is valid for Qatar.
