What is the Meaning of Apostille?

Apostille is a certification issued by a designated authority from a Hague apostille country to legalize the documents for use in another Hague country. In India the Ministry of external affairs is authorized to provide an apostille stamp on your personal, educational and commercial documents to authenticate them.

Apostille as an authentication certificate came into effect after the Hague convention on Apostille. Thus, before the apostille convention Indians travelling to any other country needed to get embassy attestation on their documents to legalize them. However, after the apostille convention apostille is enough to legalize Indian documents in any other Hague country.

Since Mexico is a Hague country, an apostille from MEA India is accepted in Mexico.

After verification, the concerned state department will attest the document.

MEA Verification

Once the state level attestation is done, you can submit the document to the Ministry of External Affairs through your choice of apostille service agency.  The MEA will make a final verification.
